Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted and mustered as Private, Company F, 37th Virginia Infantry in Glade Spring, VA on 25 April 1861. He was appointed First Sergeant in January 1862 and commissioned First Lieutenant on 15 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864, held at Point Lookout, MD, then transferred to Fort Delaware on 25 June. He was released 16 June 1865 after taking the oath of allegiance.

After the War

He was living in Moab, Washington County, VA in 1905.
