He was wounded in the arm in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His arm was amputated and he was discharged on 15 October 1862. He was appointed Drillmaster as 2nd Lieutenant on 15 April 1863 and resigned that commission on 31 August 1864.
