Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as Private, Company B, Phillips' Legion Infantry Battalion on 4 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the thigh in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured in action at Gettysburg, PA in July 1863 and was back to duty by 1864. He was captured at Sailor's Creek, VA on 6 April 1865 and held at Newport News, VA. He escaped from prison and "walked home".

After the War

He moved to Texas about 1877 and was a farmer in Greenville, Hunt County.

He married Jennie Amelia (or Amelia Jane) Martin (1848-1899) in 1867 and they had at least 6 children together. He married Margaret Sory-New (1844-1904) in 1902 and Jo Ella Kiersky (1860-1929) in 1906.
