He was captured in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was exchanged on 2 October 1862. He was 3rd Corporal by February and 5th Sergeant by October 1863. He was furloughed home in April 1864 and afterwards listed as absent without leave.
