Before Sharpsburg

He moved to Texas from Virginia in the 1850s and was a carpenter in Liberty County in 1860. He enlisted in Washington County, TX as a Private in Company H, 4th Texas Infantry on 7 May 1861 and was appointed 2nd Sergeant by August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to First Sergeant of his Company on 1 November 1862 and sent to Texas on recruiting duty in February and March 1863. He was killed in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864 while commanding the Company as senior man present.
