He enlisted in Grimes County as a Private in Company H, 4th Texas Infantry on 7 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was mortally wounded by a gunshot with "compound fracture" in action while Color Bearer at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862, left on the field, and captured.

The rest of the War

He was paroled at Sharpsburg on 27 September and sent to US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD on 22 October, but died there on 18 December 1862; 18 years old. He was buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick the next day.
