He enlisted at York Court House, SC as Private, Company C, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 27 December 1861. He was wounded at Second Manassas in August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 15 October 1862. His father H.M. Queen filed for his final pay in April 1863.
