From Spartanburg, he enrolled in Infantry Company C, Holcombe Legion on 21 November 1861, probably as Lieutenant, about a month before his 18th birthday.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Captain, probably in June 1864 at the death of Captain Bost, and served to the end of the war.
