Before Antietam

Age 24, he enlisted on 6 July 1861 in New York City and mustered the next day as Private, Company K, 42nd New York Infantry. He transferred to Company I in August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by gunshot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the US Army hospital in the City Hotel (part of USA General Hospital #2) in Frederick, MD on 28 September but died of wounds on 17 October 1862.
