Before Sharpsburg

He was a married 35 year old storekeeper in New Orleans when he enlisted 4 June 1861, at Camp Moore, LA, in Company F, 6th Louisiana Infantry and was commissioned First Lieutenant. He was wounded in May or June 1862, place not given, and promoted to Captain of Company B on 27 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, in a skirmish near Fredericksburg, VA on 29 April 1863. He was captured at Rappahannock, VA on 7 November 1863 and sent to Johnson's Island, OH by way of the Old Capitol Prison in Washington, DC. He was exchanged at City Point, VA on 24 February 1865.
