Age 24, from Claiborne Parish, he enlisted as Private in Company I, 2nd Louisiana Infantry on 6 August 1861 at Camp Magruder.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was absent on furlough to January 1863, then returned to duty. He was paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 10 April 1865.

After the War

He joined other members of his family in Texas, and was farming cotton with his brother Watson in Walker County by 1866. He later lived in Freestone and Madison Counties.

He married Josephine/Johanna/Joan Metcalf (1851-1893) in 1870 and they probably had 3 children.
