Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 23 year old tinsmith in New Orleans, he enlisted 7 June 1861, at Camp Moore, LA in Company A, 7th Louisiana Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was probably treated at a field hospital near Sharpsburg, then briefly at US Army General Hospital #5 in Frederick, MD on 15 and 16 October. He was transferred to Fort McHenry in Baltimore, to Fortress Monroe, VA, and finally exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 10 November 1862. He returned to his Company about March 1863. He was captured again, on 7 November 1863 at Rappahannock, VA and held at Point Lookout, MD to 10 March and was exchanged at City Point, VA on 15 March. He was captured yet again on 7 May 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House, VA and returned to Point Lookout. He was exchanged at Cox's Landing, VA on about 15 February 1865.
