Before Sharpsburg

From New Orleans, he enlisted as Corporal, Company B, 8th Louisiana Infantry on 23 June 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. He was promoted to Sergeant on 27 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to his Company and was elected 2nd Lieutenant on 30 October 1862. He was captured at Strasburg, VA on 19 October 1864 and sent from Harpers Ferry to Fort Delaware on 27 October. On 11 July 1865 he took the oath of allegiance and was released.
