Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted at Corsicana in Navarro County as a Private in Company I, 4th Texas Infantry on 17 July 1861 and he was elected 2nd Lieutenant on 26 December 1861.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was wounded by a gunshot in action at Sharpsburg on 16 or 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a hospital in Culpeper, VA on 27 September but was soon back on duty. He was promoted to First Lieutenant in October 1863 and served to at least August 1864, the last muster roll on record, part of that time commanding Company K. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

In 1880 he was Treasurer of Navarro County, at Corsicana. From 1893-1898 he was postmaster, and by 1900 he was landlord of a boarding house at 305 South 15th Street there.
