Enrolled at West Point in 1825 with another Lee, Robert E., a distant relative. He did not graduate. He was a Mexican War veteran. He led the famous "Harvard Regiment" (20th Mass.) through the early War in the East, notably on the Penninsula at Fair Oaks.
On the Campaign
In command of the 20th Massachusetts, he was heavily engaged in the brutal fighting in the West Woods.
