Age 18, he enlisted on 7 May 1861 at Ithaca for two years and mustered as Private, Company I, 32nd New York Infantry on 31 May.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and died the next day.

References & notes

His service from the Adjutant General1 who says he was killed outright on 14 September. His gravesite is on Findagrave. His stone says he "fell" at the battle on the 14th and died on 15 September. His birth date calculated from his age of 19 years, 11 months and 3 days at death.
