Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in Athens, Henderson County, TX as a Private in Company K, 4th Texas Infantry on 15 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was wounded in the left eye and initially reported missing in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. He had been captured there.

The rest of the War

He was paroled in Sharpsburg on 27 September, sent to Fort McHenry in Baltimore, then, on 14 October, sent on to Aikens Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital #4 in Richmond, VA on 24 October 1862, was on furlough in November, and returned to his Company on 23 April 1863. He was still with them at the end of the war; he was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
