Before Sharpsburg

From Marshal, TX, he enlisted in Athens, TX as a Private in Company K, 4th Texas Infantry on 11 (or 15) July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was appointed 2nd Sergeant on 1 October 1862 (vice A.H. Rogers) but was again a Private and was driving an ordnance wagon by the end of 1862; he was a wagon driver/teamster to at least April 1864. He was captured in the Wilderness on 6 May 1864, was sent to Belle Plain, VA on 17 May, then through Point Lookout, MD and on to Elmira, NY on 17 July 1864. He was released on 19 June 1865 after taking an oath of allegiance.
