Before Sharpsburg

A 28 year old farmer on his older brother Abner's place in Cokesbury, Abbeville District, he enlisted as 2nd Sergeant, Company B, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1862. He was promoted to First Sergeant on 13 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and probably captured nearby.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds 26 October 1862 in Maryland.

His brother Abner Hill McGee (b. 1823) was killed at Gaines Mill, VA in June 1862 while Sergeant Major of Orr's Rifles (First Regiment SC Rifles).
