From the Anderson District, he enlisted as Private, Company H, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 1 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was absent after December 1862 and returned to duty in June 1863. He was sick in hospitals or absent for other reasons for much of 1863 and 1864. He was wounded by a gunshot to his right arm in early 1865, place not given, captured, and a prisoner in the Federal 24th Army Corps hospital from 11 to 14 April 1865 with no further military record.
