Before Sharpsburg

Age 29, from Mt. Carmel, Abbeville District, he enlisted as 2nd Sergeant, Company E, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1861. He reenlisted in Company M on 11 February 1862. He was slightly wounded in the head at Savage Station, VA on 29 June 1862 and promoted to First Lieutenant on 24 July.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
