A 17 year old farm boy at Donaldsville, Edgefield District, he enlisted as Private, Company B, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 21 July 1862

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 7 October 1862, but never returned to his Company. He was on duty as a guard at Wilson, NC in about June 1864 with no further military record.
