He was wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died from typhoid fever in a hospital in Richmond, VA on 29 September 1862.

References & notes

His service from the Roll,1 which has him only as McDonald and says he was killed outright on South Mountain, and the index to his Compiled Service Records via the Historical Data Systems database, as J.A. McDaniel. There is no McDonald in the roster of the regiment. His gravesite is on Findagrave.
