Before the Antietam Campaign: He entered service as Captain, Company A, 103rd New York Infantry on 4 January 1862 and was promoted to Major on 4 April. The remainder of the War: By Fredericksburg in December he was Colonel of the Regiment. He was killed in the skirmish at Providence Church Road (part of the Suffolk Siege), Virginia, 3 May 1863.
