Before Sharpsburg

On 15 August 1861, then a 22 year old lawyer, he turned down a commission in an infantry unit and enlisted in Athens, GA as Private in Captain Delony's Company C, Cobb's Legion Cavalry.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in Maryland.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Sergeant by November 1863. He was wounded at Trevilian Station, VA in June 1864 and was elected Lieutenant on 1 August 1864. He was surrendered on 26 April 1865 and was paroled at Greensboro, NC on 1 May.

After the War

He was a lawyer in Jefferson, GA and Atlanta, GA.
