He was wounded in the thigh in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He transferred to Company D, 23rd Tennessee Infantry Battalion in December 1862 (in late 1863 they consolidated with the 45th Tennessee Infantry and became the 4th Tennessee Consolidated Infantry Regiment).
