A 21 year old farmer on his mother's place in Russell County, he enlisted as Private, Company K (later F), 6th Alabama Infantry on 6 May 1861.

He was killed in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862

His service from the State of Alabama,1 which also has him killed at Sharpsburg. His death on South Mountain is in a casualty list for Rodes' Brigade in the Montgomery Weekly Advertiser of 8 October 1862. Personal details from the US Census of 1860.
