He's listed as killed outright at Sharpsburg in Major (later Colonel) Herbert's History of the Eighth Alabama Volunteer Regiment, C.S.A. in The Alabama Historical Quarterly (#39, 1977). Thanks to Kevin Pawlak for posting about that reference. His death at Shepherdstown from the Alabama Archives1 citing the Mobile Advertiser and Register of 14 September 1865.
