He enlisted as Private, Company F, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 27 November 1861 in Columbia, SC.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded by a gunshot in the hip in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in hospitals in Richmond and Danville, VA in October and November and absent into February 1863 then returned to duty. He was with his Company to at least April 1863 with no later military record.
