Age 31, from Guilford County, he was conscripted as Private, Company A, First North Carolina Infantry on 15 July 1862 in Guilford.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to his Company by February 1863. He was captured in the Wilderness, VA on 8 May 1864 and held at Point Lookout, MD. He died there on 31 July 1864.
