Before the Antietam Campaign: He was briefly Captain, Company D, of the 10th Infantry at its organization (about 30 April 1861), but was appointed Major of the Regiment 2 May 1861. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 31 October 1861. The remainder of the War: He was (probably) mustered out of the service as the Regiment became a Battalion at the end of its two-year term of service 7 May 1863.
