Before Antietam

A knife salesman in Hartford, CT by 1860, he enlisted as a Private in Rifle Company A, First Connecticut Infantry for 3 months' service on 23 April 1861. He was at First Manassas then was discharged, on 31 July 1861. He enrolled as 2nd Lieutenant of Company A, 8th Connecticut Infantry and mustered as such on 25 September 1861. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 24 December 1861 and to Captain of Company F in May 1862.

On the Campaign

He led his Company in Maryland in 1862.

The rest of the War

He resigned his commission, probably for health reasons, on 22 December 1862.

After the War

He was a farmer in Simsbury and Bloomfield, CT, then a clerk in Hartford. By 1870 he was a merchant in Springfield, MA, listed as a shoe dealer there in 1880. He went west to a farm at Ontario, CA about 1890 but died there in 1894.

He married Anna Cecelia Thompson (1841-1912) in May 1861 at Simsburg, CT, and they had 4 children.

Lieutenant Ariel J. Case of the 16th Connecticut was Wolcott's brother-in-law, their wives were sisters.
