Before Antietam

From Somers, he enlisted as a Private in Company A, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 14 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in his shin in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He transferred to the 5th Company, 2nd Battalion, Veteran Reserve Corps on 24 June 1863 and was promoted to Corporal on 1 November 1863. He transferred again, to Company H of the 10th Regiment, VRC, was promoted to Sergeant on 19 August 1864, and was appointed First Sergeant on 1 December. He was discharged 27 June 1865.
