Before Antietam

A 16 year old carder in a woolen mill in Stafford, CT, he enlisted as a Private in Company I, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 25 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his thigh in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #4 in Frederick, MD on 3 October and transferred to GH#8 ("Camp B") in Frederick on 5 January 1863. He was sent to the Convalescent Camp in Alexandria, VA on 2 March 1863, and returned to duty, date not given.

He mustered out with his regiment at New Bern, NC on 24 June 1865.

After the War

He was a painter in Providence, RI to at least 1910.

He married Adelaide Grafton Luther (1837-1900) and, secondly, Martha Louise Sprague Boutwell (1841-1916) in April 1907 in Providence.
