Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 17 year old worker on his father's farm at Monticello in Jasper County, GA. He enlisted in Covington as a Private in Company E, 53rd Georgia Infantry on 3 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was exchanged at Aiken's Landing on 15 October 1862. He was surrendered on 9 April 1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA.

After the War

By 1880 and to at least 1900 he was a farmer at Brewers, Newton County, GA, next door to his father and near at least 3 brothers. With family still nearby, he had retired there by 1910.
