Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 21 year old worker on his father Robert's large farm near Zebulon in Pike County, GA. He enlisted as 4th Sergeant of Company A, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 at Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He slightly wounded in the head in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated for a gunshot at a hospital in Richmond from 23 to 27 September, then was on leave into December 1862. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant on 6 October 1862 and wounded again, at Gettysburg, PA, on 2 July 1863. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 9 April 1864 and was wounded by a gunshot to his right thigh at Hatcher's Run, VA on 5 February 1865. He was furloughed for 30 days on 29 March 1865 with no later military record.

After the War

He died young, at age 33, in 1870.

He married Anne Haseltine Parks (1842-1908) in April 1865 and they had two daughters, Mary and Mattie.

Anne's brother Franklin Rush Parks, also in Company A, was killed at Sharpsburg.
