Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as a Private in Company C (later H), 5th Alabama Infantry on 7 August 1861 at Pickensville, AL.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was held at Fort Delaware until paroled on 2 October, then sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange. He was declared exchanged to return to duty on 10 November 1862 but was in a Richmond, VA hospital on 30 November. He was wounded by a gunshot to his right hand at Chancellorsville, VA on 2 May 1863 and returned to duty from a Richmond hospital on 24 July. He was wounded again, mortally, by a gunshot to his left arm with fracture on 5 May 1864 in the Wilderness, VA. He died of wounds and pleurisy in the CS General Hospital in Charlottesville, VA on 19 June 1864.
