He enlisted as a Private in D, 5th Alabama Infantry on 6 March 1862 at Greensboro, AL.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was a prisoner at Fort Delaware until 2 October when he was sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange. He was in a Richmond hospital on 8 October, furloughed about 16 October, and declared officially exchanged and eligible to return to duty on 10 November 1862. He was captured again, at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863, and sent back to Fort Delaware. He was transferred to Point Lookout, MD on 22 October 1863 but died at the small pox hospital there on 3 November 1863.
