Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as a Private in Company H, 5th Alabama Infantry on 24 March 1862 in Pickensville.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain (or at Middletown, MD) on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was a prisoner at Fort Delaware until 2 October when he was sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange. He was in a Richmond, VA hospital by 28 October and was declared exchanged on 10 November 1862. He was in hospitals ill with neuralgia until returned to duty on 19 February 1863. He was captured in Maryland in 1863, probably on the return from Gettysburg in July, and was listed as a prisoner to at least October 1864, the latest record in his military file.
