References & notes

His service from his Compiled Service Records,1 online from fold3, also as G.M. Williams; thanks to Miles Krisman for the pointer to him.

There were apparently two George Washington Williams in Company I; their military records are intermingled. One enlisted in March 1862. One of them was in Richmond, VA hospitals from 31 August to at least 15 December 1862, so not on the Maryland Campaign. One or both were captured at Chancellorsville, VA in May 1863 and/or Gettysburg, PA in July 1863 and prisoner(s) to 1865.
