Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 19 year old farm worker on his parent's place near Wardensville in Hardy County, VA. He enlisted as a Private in Company C, 33rd Virginia Infantry on 3 June 1861 in Harrisonburg, VA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was absent due to wounds to at least October 1863; considered absent without leave after 28 November 1862. There is no later military record.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1910 he was a farmer in Gahanna, Franklin County, OH - his wife's hometown.
