Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 17 year old farm boy on his parent's place near Luneys Creek in Hardy County, VA. He enlisted as a Private in Company F, 33rd Virginia Infantry on 17 August 1862 in Warren County, VA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was absent sick or wounded to at least 21 May 1863, when he was listed as a deserter, with no later military record.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1800 he was a shoemaker in Moorefield, Hardy County, WV. By 1900 he was a farm worker there, and in 1910 he was doing odd jobs and living with his son Edward and his family in Moorefield.
