Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was an 18 year old farm worker on his parent's small place near Fayetteville, Fayette County, GA. He enlisted as 3rd Sergeant of Company I, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 at Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Winchester on 4 December 1862 and paroled there the same day. He was elected Junior 2nd Lieutenant on 20 January 1863, promoted to (Senior) 2nd Lieutenant on 17 February 1864 and to First Lieutenant on 1 or 9 July 1864. He was wounded later that month and furloughed home. He was promoted to Captain on 19 September 1864 and was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a farmer in Panola County, MS. In 1900 he was farming in Washington County, MS, but by 1910 he was a retail grocer in Ruleville, Sunflower County, MS.
