Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as a Private in Company D, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA. He was appointed Corporal by March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863. By then 2nd Sergeant of his Company, he was wounded for the third time by a gunshot to his left thigh "invading joint" and then captured at Monocacy Junction, MD on 9 July 1864. He was treated in a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD to 20 September then in a hospital in Baltimore. He was transferred to Point Lookout, MD on 29 October 1864 and exchanged effective that date. He was captured again, in a hospital in Savannah, GA on 21 December 1864 suffering with acute dysentery, and died there on Christmas Day.
