The youngest of 13 siblings, in 1860 he was a 30 year old farmer at Rocky Mount in Meriwether County, GA, between his brothers Olvin's and Andrew's farms. He enlisted as a Private in Company B, 13th Georgia Infantry on 20 August 1862 in Grantville, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was on wounded furlough from October 1862 into February 1863. He was absent without leave from August 1864 to at least February 1865, the latest military record in his file.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was again farming in Meriwether County.

He married Nancy Jane Perkerson (1834-1901) in December 1858 and they a son John (1859-1935).

Olvin H Gill (1829-1924) was also in Company B of the 13th Infantry.
