Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a successful 32 year old farmer near Cuthbert in Randolph County, GA. He enrolled as 2nd Lieutenant of Company E, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA. He was elected First Lieutenant on 23 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his right hand and wrist in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was home in Brookeville, GA on wounded furlough through at least April 1863 and was promoted to Captain to date from 2 December 1862. He resigned his commission on 4 April 1864 due to disability.

After the War

By 1870 he was farming again at Cuthbert, GA.
