Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 20 year old on his parent's farm at West Point in Troup County, GA; 21 year old John Wesley Hodnett lived next door. He enlisted as a Private in Company K, 13th Georgia Infantry on 1 September 1862 in La Grange, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was on wounded furlough to 19 March 1863, and frequently in Virginia hospitals through the rest of 1863. He was again on furlough, due to gastroenteritis of 3 months duration, from February to 1 April 1864. He was killed, probably at Spotsylvania Court House, VA, on 12 May 1864.
