He enlisted as a Private in Company D, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 at Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

The bullet from his Sharpsburg wound remained lodged under his shoulder blade to at least January 1864. He was wounded again, by a gunshot to his right knee, and captured at Monocacy, MD on 9 July 1864. He was in US Army hospitals in Fredrick and Baltimore, MD to 9 May 1865, then sent to Fort McHenry, MD, where he was released the next day.
