Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted at Graysport, MS as a Private in Company D, 2nd Mississippi Infantry Battalion on 14 August 1861. He was often sick in hospitals in Richmond and Danville, VA during the period from 11 May to 20 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was sick and left behind at Frederick, MD on about 11 September and captured there about 13 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick on 19 September, paroled at Sharpsburg, MD on 24 September, and was back with his Company by November. He was appointed 4th Corporal by October 1863 and 5th Sergeant by August 1864. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
