Before Sharpsburg

He had service in the Mexican War as a Private in Captain Blythe's Company A, 2nd Mississippi Infantry from June 1847 to July 1848, detailed for at least part of that time to the Quartermaster's Department, and he mustered out in Vicksburg.

In 1860 he was a 31 year old coach maker at Starkville in Oktibbeha County, MS. He enlisted at West Point, MS as 2nd Sergeant of the Company which became Company L, 2nd Mississippi Infantry Battalion on 12 May 1862. He and the Company joined the Battalion just before Manassas on 29 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a Richmond, VA hospital on 28 September, sent on to Danville, VA on 15 December, and returned to duty on 17 January 1863. He was wounded again and captured near Fredericksburg, VA on 5 June 1863 and held at the Old Capitol Prison in Washington, DC until paroled on 10 May. He was appointed First Sergeant by October 1863 and was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

By 1880 and to at least 1900 he was a carpenter in Starkville, MS. He was county Treasurer from 1882-84.
